TAMAR and Tavy Gig Club entered a men's A team into the Newquay County Gig Championships. The team of George Masters, Pete Keegan, Jake Rendle, Orlando Lloyd, John Overnell, and Kev Cole were quite a novice crew. Coxed by Chris Dill, they took on some tough clubs in their first heat, including Newquay A and St Ives A. Conditions were good with reasonably flat seas and they had a good strong start placing them fourth in the first part of the race. A clash with St Ives at the first buoy cost the them their hard earned fourth place but St Ives were awarded penalty points putting Tamar and Tavy back into fourth and a place in the quarter finals. By this time, however, conditions had worsened which made for a tougher race and unfortunately the crew did not make it into the next round. They rowed really well, however, and their team spirit saw them through making it an excellent and enjoyable day. The Tamar and Tavy crew finished 48th out of the 85 boats competing which was a superb result.
