IT was a busy time for Tamar and Tavy Gig Club this past weekend with two gigs out at two events and a fund-raising jumble sale at Bere Alston.
The jumble on Saturday morning was organised by Sandra Anstey, Jane Moreton and Loveday Fethney and ably supported by a superb team of volunteers — raising £360.30 for much needed club funds.
The men's squad represented the club at the Devon Cup Race at Salcombe. A field of 12 crews mustered for the race from just across the river from the public slip way to the Crabshell pub.
The team (pictured), coxed by Becky Masters were Peter Clarke, David Conn, Simon Luke, Tim Brodribb, Chris Dill and Andy Moreton, came a credible ninth place.
Having left one boat behind at the start, they then passed Trojan and Cadmus. They could not quite reach Raparee who gave them a great race to the finish.
All the gigs were then raced back by the ladies of the various clubs represented.
Another crew coxed by Martin Painter, went to Helford, racing from the estuary to Gweek in around 45 minutes. One of 20 gigs taking part, the crew rowed extremely well passing two gigs on the way!
