FOUR Tavistock Athletic Club runners took part in the inaugural Barnstaple marathon and half marathon at the weekend. TAC's Gary Chanter, Trevor Williams, Ann-Marie Chanter and Jason Shipton joined hundreds of runners for the event in North Devon. Trevor completed the full marathon for charity and raised £1,000 for charity. Both races start and finish at Rock Park in Barnstaple and includes the Tarka Trail all the way to Fremington and then up the Fremington Quay, to Yelland and back to Barnstaple cross the old bridge to head onto the Strand. On the Strand the race split with the half marathoners turn left just before the old fountain and left again to go under the under pass and head back to the park to the finish.   The full marathon participants ran all the way along the Strand to the Civic Centre car park where they joined the Tarka trail again and headed for the Royal Marine Base at Chivenor where runners were met by 22 Squadron — The Wessex helicopters of the Search and Rescue team. The runners took in 2.5 miles of track by the base before heading back to Chivenor roundabout, the Tarka trail and head home.
