RUNNERS from Tavistock Athletic Club travelled north last Sunday to compete in two races hosted by the North Devon Road Runners.
The half marathon took in the beautiful coastal scenery of the Tarka Trail, and several well seasoned athletes put in great runs, in sometimes less than favourable conditions.
Earlier in the day, the full marathon set off, again making the most of the areas sea-views and a run through part of the the Royal Marines Base at RAF Chivenor.
The majority of the marathon runners were first-timers at the distance. Even more impressive was the fact that six of the Tavistock athletes came through the ’Couch to 5K’ programme in the past year or two, which is held at the club on Saturday mornings. This is a huge testament to the determination and commitment of the athletes, the quality of the coaching and support on offer, and the extent to which the running bug is an easy one to catch!
All marathon athletes finished the run in good shape, and did themselves and the club proud. It was a day to remember for many.
The next Couch to 5K course starts on Saturday — details can be found on the clubs Facebook page Tavy Joggers.
