THE Totnes 10k race is nearly all off road, following alongside the beautiful River Dart starting and finishing on Borough Park. It was a hard race on a hot day and for Tavistock Athletic Club runner Charlie Shipton his first 10k race. Charlie came 277th out of 631 and a time of 56 minutes 57 seconds. The week before his father, Jason, ran at Caton Park in Derbyshire in the Thunder run TR24 — a 24 hour race. In the Totnes 10k his time was 50.08, proving he still had the thunder run legs in him. His younger brother entered in the fun run and was in the top 10. The Adidas Thunder Run is a 24 hour off-road relay race against the clock. Whether competitors run solo, pairs or teams of five or eight it will test tactics, endurance, speed and team work. It's an exhilarating, rewarding and tiring race with a great atmosphere. The TR24 is physically challenging and mentally tough but an experience not to be missed. It's a 10k course; Jason has done this race the last few years with teams of eight and winning three years ago and coming second last year. This year he did it as a solo runner to raise money for prostate cancer charity and so far he has raised just under £700 with more money coming in. Jason thanks Brooks for their donation and T K Max in Plymouth for their fundraising. Jason manged 130k (roughly 81 miles) over the 24 hours. and said he would go back again next year.
