IN the Okehampton and district table tennis league Okehampton A won the Bill Fogerty trophy beating Academy A in the final. In the consolation final Bridestowe beat Milton Abbot B.

The league started at the end of October and in division one Tavistock made a convincing start beating Anchorage A, who moved up from division two, 10-0.

David Wilson took Peter Hicks all the way in his last singles, just missing out 21-9 in the fifth set.

In division two Horrabridge took on a strong Anchorage B. David Wilson scored a fine maximum for Anchorage, ably supported by Dave Vanstone and Roger Gilbert with two singles each. John Stewart did well to win two singles for Horrabridge while Dave Vanstone and Dave Wilson won the doubles against Rob and John for a 8-2 win for Anchorage.

Milton Abbot A were home to Okehampton C. Ottila Pochat for Milton Abbot worked hard to beat Richard Rose in five sets. Frank Cockburn beat Tim Westcott in four to level before Milton A won the next three for a 4-1 lead. Richard took Tim a fifth set, which he lost 15-13. Frank beat Ian Osborne in five to make it 4-2 before Milton A won the next three to lead 7-2. But Richard and Frank won the doubles in four sets against Ottila and Tim for a 7-3 win for Milton Abbot A.

Okehampton B played the new team Walkham where the latter's Ben Edmonds, completed his first maximum in the league, to win the first against Dick Randall. Callum Sherrell won the next against John Howick to put Walkham ahead 2-0. Dick won his next two singles while John and Mark Ralph won singles and Walkham won the dobules for a 6-4 win.

Moretonhampstead at home to Milton Abbot B had a fought match before winning 6-4. Ben Evans and Harry Barnaby won two singles each — both beating Graham Adnitt and Brian Skilton before losing to Ken Underhill and Graham in the doubles over four sets.
