Okehampton ladies 10

East Culm Valley Hornets ladies seconds 2

THE East Devon visitors set off at a pace that took Okehampton's women's hockey team on the hop and within seconds of the starting whistle they had scored.  Okehampton shook themselves and some neat passing up the left wing found Jo Moppett who equalised.

ECVH came back again and scored off a well managed short corner.  Again Oke replied with another Jo Moppett equaliser.  The home side felt a little safer when they took the lead with a stunning cross shot from Kim Davey and from then on the whole team transformed itself into a goal hunting machine backed up  sterling defence led by joint player of the match Jane Jones at centre back; her timing and tackling was superb.  Joey Drake, centre marker, anticipated several break throughs and swept the ball forward playing with intelligence and panache.

Tara Davidson, Kim Bland, Louise Weller and Alex Collins all worked hard for Oke to keep the visitors at bay creating the chances for Jo Moppett, Lesley Bingham and Kim Davey. The pace of the Jo Moppett and Kim Davey was a frequent surprise to ECVH and Lesley Bingham passes created scoring chances.

Okehampton's lead steadily increased.  Jo Moppett scored two more while Kim Davey scored with a superb flick to the top left corner.  Joey Drake was the next to score. Joey took a short corner, passed to Tara Davidson who passed it back for Joey to crack the ball in.  Moppett made it 8-2 at half time.

The second half still engaged the whole Okehampton team.  Viv Weatherington played with confidence and accuracy in goal.  ECVH forced several short corners and long corners but the tight marking by Okehampton stopped ECVH scoring.  Moppett and Bingham scored again for the home side.  Jo Moppett with six goals was joint player of the match. Okehampton remain top of the league.
