THE first round of the Arena National Swimming League saw the Tavistock Swimming Club squad travel to Horfield in Bristol. The gala consisted of six teams, with the opposing teams being Kingbridge Kingfishers, Carn Brae, Caradon, Lydney and Cinderford and Cirencester.

The races were fast and furious with Tavistock earning fourth place, just missing out on third by one point. There were seven first places from TSC members - Will Cunningham in the 11/U 50m breaststoke, Luke Stephens in the 13/U 50m breaststroke, Kieran Rookes in the 15/u 100m breaststroke, and Matt Edwards in the men's open 100m freestyle.

The boys 15/U team —James Anderson, Gavin Ball, Kieran Rookes and Harry Thompson — won both both their medley and freestyle relays, while the men's open relay team, Nathaniel Rookes, Mike Best, Gareth Williams and Matt Edwards won ther medley relay.

The swimmers who took part with the number of personal bests achieved in brackets were James Anderson (1), Sophie Anderson (1), Emily Attfield (1), William Aveyard, Gavin Ball, Maddy Benyon (1), Mike Best, Ben Bowles, Jessamy Clemens, James Close (1), Will Cunningham (2), Imogen Dickinson, Harriet Edwards, Matt Edwards, Emily France (1), Jake France, Bel Germon, Flora Germon (1), Megan Groom, Grace James (2), Jessica James, Chloe Marks, Roseanna Milburn, George Morgan (1), Ieuan Noakes, Kieran Rookes, Nathaniel Rookes (1), Kathryn Stacey, Luke Stephens (1), Elizabeth Teague, Sarah Teague, Beth Thompson (2), Harry Thompson (2), Gareth Williams and Kirsty Williams.

This was an excellent result for the squad who return this month ot Horfield in the second round of the National Swimming league.
