Plymouth Marjon ladies 1

TAVISTOCK looked forward to what they knew would be a tough match against a strong Plymouth Marjon side.

The home side started well with a new look formation and applied the pressure immediately. Although they created many good opportunities in the first half the home side could not quite get themselves ahead but with some solid defensive work by Mills-Hicks, Colwill and Mount Kelly student Francis the Plymouth side were kept clear and it was 0-0 at half time.

Tavistock adjusted their formation going into the second half which proved to be a great decision. Immediately the forward line of Law, Gaspar and Lamb were creating some chances in the Plymouth side’s half but were unfortunate not to convert.

A great ball from midfielder Nevin enabled Lamb to outskill the Plymouth defence, pulled it back to Fenwick, who calmly flicked it passed the keeper on her reverse to take Tavistock into the lead.

Plymouth came back with strength and it did not take them long to snatch an equaliser past Tavistock’s keeper Baldwin.

With just seven minutes remaining Tavistock pounced once again, with some stunning hockey from the reds’ forward line saw player of the match Gaspar put away the final touch and give Tavistock the lead.

The home side kept control of the game and pushed through the final minutes with some patient hockey to take a truly deserved 2-1 win.
