Morley rangers 1 Tavistock ladies 7 AFTER an excellent pre-season, Tavistock ladies were keen to make a good start to the campaign to push for promotion. The first game of the season saw them away to Morley Rangers. The first goal came not long into the first half, after some great passing throughout the midfield, Becky McMullin made an excellent pass which was met by Robyn Hammond who scored from a superb long range shot. Tavistock's second soon followed, when Donna Weeks chipped the ball over the keeper to reach the back of the net. Morley struggled to break through the Tavistock defence with Tavistock's players working hard to keep the ball out of their half despite a couple of runs by the fast paced Morley players. After some more excellent passing through the pitch and a few shots off target by the away team, Becky Turner succeeded to hit the back of the net, scoring Tavistock's third from the left wing over the top of the Morley keeper. Just before the half time whistle, Donna Weeks scored her second goal of the day with a long range right footed shot, putting Tavistock 4-0 up. After the half time break Tavistock continued to link up with each player working well as a team and supporting one another. Tavistock's midfield and defence worked to get the ball out wide to the wingers, who worked hard to get the ball in to Tavistock's forwards who worked the Morley defence hard. Tavistock managed to once again break through the Morley defence with a ball in from Kirsty Jones, seeing Sarah Martin smash the ball with a left footed shot into the back of the net. By this point, Tavistock's good fitness level showed throughout the team, with the home side tiring and still hardly able to break through the Tavistock players but occasionally making a good run, only for Zoe Stock to make some superb clearances just outside her box. Halfway through the second half, Becky McMullin struck the ball with her left foot and scored a brilliant long range goal. Unfortunately, Tavistock were unable to keep a clean sheet. Morley scored a consolation goal toward the end of the game. Tavistock continued playing well making the opposition continue to work hard with Sarah Blowey hitting the post twice. The seventh goal came from an assist by Donna Weeks who played a square ball to Sarah Martin who proceeded to score another great goal from outside the area. Player of the Match – Sarah Martin. n Tavistock Ladies' next game is 3pm v Plainmoor at Crowndale.
