EXCELLENT results were obtained from 16 swimmers from Tavistock Swimming Club when they competed in the Devon County Championships, which took place at the Plymouth Life Centre.

The swimmers swam in 62 events, achieving 56 personal best times, 13 age group finals, two championship finals and superbly seven swimmers achieved 20 Western County times.

Head coach James said: 'This is the most successful year so far for numbers of swimmers achieving qualifying times for Devons and even Westerns. I am very proud of my swimmers, they are achieving a lot!'

The two championship finals were achieved by Iain Chalmers in the 50m breaststroke and Kieran Rookes in the 100m breaststroke.

Breaststroke age-group finals were achieved in the 100m breaststroke — Nathaniel Rookes in the 16 and over and Luke Stephens in the 14 years age group, while Luke also reached the 200m breaststroke age-group final.

Nathaniel Rookes also reached the age-group finals in the 100m backstroke and the 200m backstroke, where he swam in the adjacent lane to Cameron McGurk, which produced some close racing. Cameron had also reached the 100m butterfly age-group final with an excellent swim in the heats.

Age-group finals had also been achieved by James Anderson in the 200m freestyle, Jake France in the 100m freestyle and the 100m IM, Kieran Rookes in the 100m IM and Luke Stephens in the 200m IM.

The personal best times ranged from an improvement of 0.10 seconds up to over 25 second improvement by Jake in the 400m freestyle.

The swimmers from Tavistock Swimming Club, who competed at the Devon Championships, were James Anderson, Gemma Arundel, Iain Chalmers, Jessamy Clemens, Emily France, Jake France, Alex Francis, Amber Francis, James Lake, Cameron McGurk, George Morgan, Kieran Rookes, Nathaniel Rookes, Luke Stephens, Sarah Teague and Beth Thompson.
