OKEHAMPTON and Downes Crediton Golf Clubs hosted The Mid Devon Foursomes competition at the weekend.

With beautiful warm sunshine and both courses in superb condition a successful and enjoyable weekend's golf was had by everyone.

Winners of the scratch (36 holes) with an excellent score of 66 points were Nathan Gilpin and Robbie Thompson of Torquay; second with 57 were Colin Rowland and Mark Gifford also from Torquay and in third were K Lacey and G Sims with 53 points from Windwhistle.

Winners of the handicap (36 holes) were Malcolm Hill and Kevin Cornwall from Okehampton with 70pts; Steve Sandiford and B Slater from Oke and Exeter were second with 69 on the back nine from, in third Malcolm Hooper and Paul Prouse both from Okehampton.

The mixed (36 holes) was won by Mac and June Hamon of Weymouth with 67pts on the back 18 from in second Gareth Holt and Lyn Hazelton from Okehampton. Third position went to Blackie Widdows and Michelle Abel from Okehampton. Winners of the single sex were Peter Kiss and John Skyrme from Okehampton with 68pts on the back 18 from in second Paul Ayris and Matt Mills also from Okehampton; third, Keith Harkness and John Heal from Okehampton and Exeter clubs on 66.

The Okehampton GC ladies section enjoyed a dry day for their weekly golf last week. They competed in the Ping fourball betterball competition for a chance to play in the finals in Lincolnshire.

The winners were Lin Atkinson and Mary Keir with 36 points.

The President's team have had a good run winning their home matches beating Crediton, Exminster and Dartmouth. They now play the return matches away.
