East Devon mixed division five
Newton Poppleford mixed 2
Okehampton mixed 8
OKEHAMPTON had another successful evening on Monday in their last match in division five.
Playing away against Newton Poppleford in gusty, damp conditions, Elizabeth Jeffery and Scott Green won their first match 6-0, 6-0, but lost the tie-break in the first set of their second match, won the next set 7-5, and the championship tie-break 10-8.
Green’s powerful serve and speed around the court gave the couple the edge in the end.
Elizabeth Ryder and Paul Love had less trouble against Newton Poppleford’s first pair, winning 7-5, 6-1, but then lost the first set of their second match before taking the next 6-0 and winning the championship tie-break 10-1.

Tunnels A 1
OKEHAMPTON A team hosted Tunnels in their division three tennis match in the Exeter and District League.
Sam Whalley and Stuart Jarvis made a solid start and won the first match 6-4, 6-2. In a closely fought second match, the consistent opposition frustrated the hosts and took the first set 4-6. However, Okehampton fought back and saved a match point to win 6-2, 11-9.
Scott Green and Martin Pearce were playing together for the first time in a competitive match but this did not bother the hosts as they eased through their matches 6-4, 7-5 and 6-4, 6-2 to give the home team a well deserved eight points.
