IN division one of the Okehampton and district table tennis league Horrabridge A were at home to Bridestowe.

John Stewart put Horrabridge A 1-0 up against Phil Down; Chloe Greenaway won the next against Francis Griffiths. Mark Tancock pulled one back for Bridestowe against young Brendon Stewart, before Greenaway won the next against Down.

The next game was a hard fought one with Stewart beating Tancock by three sets to two to put Horrabridge A 4-1 ahead.

Stewart went on to win the last singles for a fine maximum. Horrabridge A won the doubles to complete a fine 6-4 win.

In division two Anchorage A were at home to a young Okehampton D side.

Malcolm Hopkins and Colin Brooker won the first two games against Luke Bennett and Frank Cockburn to go 2-0 ahead. Mark Baldwin did well to beat Colin Jones for 2-1 then Anchorage A stepped up a gear winning the next six singles and the doubles for a 9-1 win. However the youngsters took them to six, third set deciders.

Anchorage B were at home to Gunnislake in a hard fought but enjoyable match.

Anchorage B won 8-2 but Gunnislake pushed them all the way. The best game was between Dave Vanstone and Jack Flockton with a five-leg thriller with counter smashes on both sides — Vanstone just coming off the better winning 11-9, 11-7, 2-11, 12-14 and 12-5.

With the score at 7-0 to Anchorage B Mike Kinger pulled one back against Vanstone and joined Flockton to win the doubles against Roger Gilbert and Dave Vanstone for a 8-2 win for Anchorage B. Gilbert and Dave Wilson both scored maximums.

Anchorage A played Moretonhampstead. Malcolm Hopkins, Colin Brooker and Colin Jones all scored maximums in a convincing 10-0 win for the home side.

Only two games went to five sets — Richard Underhill just losing out to Colin Jones and Ken Underhill also losing out to Jones. It showed why Anchorage A are top of the league.
