DESPITE the scoreline it was the Okehampton defence who were the stars in this game against top of the league Ottery Crickets.
The game started fast and the pace never lessened with the Ottery attack putting the visitors under constant pressure and for the first ten minutes. However the Oke hampton defence marked closely and kept control so that the attacks never came close to scoring.
It was the visitors who scored first when they they found some free space; a cross from the ever determined Kim Davey found Tara Davidson who slipped it past the goalie.
The strength of passing was shown again for the second goal - left back Abby Colton pushed the ball up to Alex Collins who found Kim Davey on the right who passed to Jo Moppett. Moppett scored with a spin around which gave the goalie no chance.
There was particular good team work from the Columbines' Tara Davidson, Alex Collins and Abby Colton; feeding the ball up the left and away from the circle.
Play was marked by a cool control, intelligent placing and steely determination.
Oke's third goal was a cracking shot from the top of the D by Jo Moppett. Ottery continued to play well and their determined efforts forced a short corner from which they scored.
After half-time the play moved back and forth with neither side really getting advantage.
Brieze Read and player of the match Carol Taylor worked tirelessly in defence for Oke and frequently cleared the ball up the pitch. Strong tackling, close marking and gritted determination won the day. However a determined Crickets side continued to attack.
Kim Davey and Jo Moppett for Oke were closely marked although Davey managed to get several crosses in.
Ottery had their chances too; one goal was disallowed as it hit the feet of the attacker inches off the goal line.
