Truro C 1
Tavistock men’s A 2
FOLLOWING last week’s win, Tavistock took a strong squad to Truro and looked in control from the start.
Their first half was excellent, with the ball being moved left and right across the full width of the pitch, denying Truro any meaningful possession.
Tavistock opened the scoring after 18 minutes when Isaac Staig flawlessly took an opportunity from a penalty corner.
Soon afterwards Dee Kirwin managed the final touch on a shot from Angus Harley, giving the visitors a 2-0 lead at half time.
Tavistock should have scored several more goals, but instead closed themselves down. The team structure collapsed as players started to follow the ball, leaving large areas of the pitch empty and denying themselves the opportunity to pass any distance.
Individuals held the ball too long instead of passing and gradually the team’s flow was lost.
Playing in limited space allowed Truro back into the game and they began to mount counter-attacks. In the last quarter of the game Truro pushed all their players forward and were rewarded when their sweeper pounced on a loose ball at the top of the Tavistock D and smashed it against the backboard while the Tavistock keeper was completely unsighted.
Although Tavistock was clearly the stronger side they just could not get the ball in the net again and had to be satisfied with a 2-1 win. This week they must focus on maintaining their structure, when they face Plymouth University B.
