TAVISTOCK College Year 9 sports leaders have been involved in helping to organise a number of local sporting events.

The students, who are studying GCSE PE, were involved in the annual Quadkids primary school athletics event last month.

The event gave the sports leaders a valuable experience of how to organise an event.

Sean Hulbert from the college sports department said: 'It was fantastic to see the college students working so closely with primary schools and it made the event even more successful.'

Quadkids is a team-based competition in which students from year 5 and 6 perform in four events — 75m sprint, 600m run, Vortex Howler throw and standing long jump. 

The students' scores are added together to create a team total.   

In third place finished Tavistock School, second were Lady Modiford's, Walkhampton and the winners of the competition were Whitchurch School. 

The total score from Whitchurch was the highest in West Devon and they will therefore be representing West Devon at the upcoming Devon Championships.
