THE second prestigious Tavistock College Sports Awards evening took place to a capacity crowd in the main hall.

It was an evening to celebrate the superb PE students at Tavistock College and their work both at the college and in the local community. 

All the students who won an award had an opportunity to meet Olympian shootist Gorgs Geikie and the whole audience were inspired by Gorgs speaking about her achievements.

There were a variety of awards including effort and achievement in curriculum; outstanding practical performance in the community; contribution to college through sport; team of the year; the Tavistock College Sports Centre community award; achievement In examination quali-fication and primary PE performer award.

The alumni award for sporting success of past students was won by Elliot Hoyte for his achievements in American Football.

The shortlist of eight students for the main Sports Awards trophy were Annie Westlake; Flo Rogers; Darcey Hepworth; Luke Northmore; Megan McCormick with the top three students Keir Murphy, Saskia Sills and the Sports Awards winner Imogen Sills.

Shaun Hulbert from the physical education department said: 'It was a fantastic evening supported by both student, parents and distinguished guests and very much looking forward to next year's event.'
