THE Tavi Specials FC were nominated by people from all over our area for the Plymouth Herald Community Club of the Year Award as the city celebrated its sporting stars and paralympic heroes from 2012.

The Specials, who are a football team for people with disabilities, were invited to the Plymouth Pavilions for the award ceremony.

Co-founder of the Specials, Allen Lewis said: 'To see our guys from Tavistock chasing the ball on the big display screen on the stage in front of more than 500 people was fantastic!

'Our club has started its fifth year now and it was such an honour to be invited to this incredible night and celebrate great achievements.'

The club were just pipped at the post by the South Hams Taekwondo Club for the club award.

Allen added: 'Moments like these spur you on to achieve more success to lets hope 2013 gets even better for our wonderful club as we reach out and help more people in the Tavistock and surrounding areas giving football a good name and helping improve lives.'
