THERE was perfect golfing weather for the 34 teams who played in the Tavistock Golf Club lady veterans three ball better ball open with blue skies, sunshine and a light breeze.   Despite the fast greens there was excellent scoring. With 86 points the Stover team of Jackie Carr, Linda Farrent and Ann Harris were first closely followed by the Tavistock team of Kate Harding, Barbara Chalk and Liz Loosmore with 85pts.  Also from Tavistock were Sally Hills, Peggy Burge and June Kendall with 84pts to take third place.  The best visitors' team was Janet Derrett, Julia Cole and Ros Williams from Tiverton with 83pts and Elaine Cooper, Bridget Luckham and Jenny Kay were the best home team with 79pts.  Nearest the pin on the seventh were Bernice Thompson (Staddon Heights) and in two on the 14th from Barbara Chalk (Tavistock).  Dinnaton won the best back nine with 43 pts and Libbaton won the best front nine with 42 pts. In the men's Kiely Cup Dave Burge and Shaun Kiely were winners with a combined score of 77pts.  Runners up were Tony Cooper and Gary Davies with 75pts on count back from Ian Crichton and Rob Score. In the qualifying round of the Express and Echo Foursomes Dawn Phillott and Hilary Picton scored 35 pts on count back from Donna Gage and Janet Kiely.  Dawn and Hilary will represent Tavistock in the final at Fingle Glen in September. The Challenge Bowl is a 36 hole medal played over two days. The Pat Turnbull Trophy is awarded for the best gross score and was won this year by Kayleigh Cann with a 154.  The Challenge Bowl was won by Donna Gage with nett 138, runner up was Kayleigh Cann with nett 146.  In the monthly Stableford Dawn Phillott with 41 pts was first in division one; second Penny Deakin on 39pts and, in third place, Patty Congo with 36pts.   Scoring was tight in division two but Liz Loosmore took first place with 36pts, second Carolyn Crawford 35pts and Sam Avens was third with 34 pts. First in division three was Helen Phipps with 37pts, second Sue Pratley 34 pts and third Joan Newland with 33 pts.
