IN division one of the Okehampton and district table tennis league Okehampton A beat North Wyke 9-1.

Tom Misselbrook saved the whitewash when he won a hard fought game against John Squire in five legs, Naomi Jackson and Barry Vaughan both scoring maximums.

In their next match North Wyke played Bridestowe who raced into a 6-0 lead before Tom Misselbrook again saved the whitewash when he beat Phil down in four legs. He also took Mark Fogerty to a fifth leg decider just losing 11-13 in the fifth. Bridestowe went on to win 9-1.

Also in division one the Mixtures took on Okehampton A. The Mixtures only had two players — Sarah won the first against Barry Vaughan — after losing the first two legs she fought back taking the next three.

Steve Tyler also lost the first two legs against Nick Jackson and came back to win in five. He then won his next two for a fine maximum. Nick won the last singles against Sarah in a hard fought five setter. Sarah and Steve won the doubles against Nick and John Squire for a 5-5 draw.

In division two Anchorage were at home against Milton Abbot A. David Wilson won the first against Michael Blatchford in five legs and went on to complete a maximum, winning his last against young Tim Westcott in the fifth leg. Tim won two singles and Ian Osborne won the other one. David and Roger Gilbert won the doubles for a 7-3 win.

Milton Abbot B took on Horrabridge in the next match. Rob Evans and Harry Barnaby put Milton 2-0 ahead against Jill Northy and Lesley Coleman; Bob Newcombe pulled one back against Ben Evans. Horrabridge won the next three to lead 2-3. Ben beat Lesley to level at 3-3. Horrabridge went on to complete the double, winning 6-4 thanks to a fine maximum from Bob Newcombe. Jill Northey won two singles.

Milton Abbot played club rivals Milton Abbot B. The A side raced into a 4-0 lead before Rob Evans saved the white wash, beating Michael Blatchford in straight sets. Tim Westcott and Ian Osborne scored maximums for a 9-1 win.

League leaders Okehampton C were at home against Horrabridge. The Oke team of Frank Cockburn, Richard and Martin Rose were to experieinced and took the match 10-0 to keep them six points clear of Milton Abbot A and Anchorage.

The last division two match was an enjoyable and hard fought game between Moretonhampstead at home to Anchorage. David Wilson took Ken Underhill all the way in the first game, Ken winning in five sets. Roger Gilbert won the next to level 1-1 against Graham Adnitt also in five legs.

The next six games went end to end with the score at 4-4. Ken took on Roger Gilbert in the last singles and another five leg decider. Ken put Moreton 5-4 ahead. David Wilson and Roger beat Brian Skilton and Graham Adnit in four legs to level at 5-5.
