ON a lovely sunny day in Okehampton, 15 primary school teams came together for the West Devon Hockey Quicksticks event, that is part of the School Games.
Entries from South Tawton, Horrabridge, St Andrews, Hatherleigh, Exbourne, Okehampton, Northlew , Lydford, Boasley Cross and Bridestowe for the event.
The pool stages produced some really tight games with skill levels developing and teams all playing better as the event progressed.
Stuart Lord from OCRA who helped organise the event said: ‘It was really great to see so many children having fun and playing hockey.
‘This was a real testimony to the great work going on at schools and with the local clubs.
‘Big thank you for the excellent work by the coaches and young hockey leaders from Okehampton Hockey Club for leading on this great event.’
It was two of the Horrabridge teams that emerged along with St Andrews and South Tawton B to the semi finals.
The picture shows the finalists St Andrews and Horrabridge A who are with their winner’s trophy. Horrabridge had already represented West Devon at the Devon competition and finished runners up which is a testimony to the excellent standard they play at.
If you would like your children to get involved in Hockey localy there are great youth set ups at Okehampton and Tavistock Clubs.
