THE DEVON and Exmoor Sheepdog Society held its Whitchurch and Sampford Spiney trial at the Sports Field of Plasterdown, Tavistock.

The novice competition was judged by Mervyn Bennallack from Gunnislake, 15 ran.

The Whitchurch and Sampford Spiney Sheep Dog Trials held a successful day at The Playing Field, Horrabridge by kind permission of Mr and Mrs M Doidge. 

The weather was kind to organisers, Devon and Exmoor Sheepdog Society and the field was soon overflowing with cars, people and dogs of all sizes and breeds.

RESULTS:?The novice Maltese Cross — first Bob Watson from North Tawton with Mirk receiving the Tom Brown Cup; 2, Bob Watson with Glen; 3, John Carter with Jess and 4, Shirley Greenaway with Ruby.

The open Maltese Cross —  first, Trevor Hooper from Veryan with Tweed receiving the Whitchurch Cup and second Ken Watson from Postbridge with Matt.

The open driving — first David Cole from Bittaford with Moss receiving the Colton Cup; 2, Mavis Backhouse, Crediton with Polly; third Jim Nicholls, Buckland Brewer, with Joe.

The best outrun, lift and fetch of the day went to Jim Nicholls with Joe receiving the Madeleine Waycott Cup for the most points gained.

In the Family Dog Show classes the champion went to Talan owned by Jennie Brewer and reserve champion went to Pheobe owned by Mrs Fairlee.

Organisers to thank all those who took part, attended or helped to make this years trials one of the best they had seen.
