OKEHAMPTON ladies’ seconds played at home on Saturday against Exe 5 in perfect hockey weather.
The home side wanted the ball from the off and put the visitors under pressure from the start, Nicky Strawbridge stealing the ball from Exe’s push back and storming down the right of the pitch, delivering the ball to Rochelle Woollacott poised to score elegantly from the P spot.
The next goal came quickly from Nicky Strawbridge from the top of the D, after dodging past Exes defence and hammering the ball into the goal.
Nicola Bennie scored goals three and four, starting with a ball delivered to the left of the D from captain Emma Wiseman. Despite many opportunities at short corners Exe were determined to keep Oke’s opportunities limited and defended strongly under pressure keeping the shots away from the backboard. Oke’s defence consisting of Anna Luxton,
Rachel Hammett and Debbie Pritchard with Carol Taylor proved a force to be reckoned with keeping Exe out of the defending 25 yard.
Goal number five came from some nifty passing through the middle from Nicky Strawbridge and man of the match Lucy Wiseman safely providing Rochelle Woolacott with a sure shot on goal. Goal number six was scored by Rachel Adams with some cheeky footwork and control in the D.
Exe five came out fighting after half time wanting the ball and surprising Okehampton and heading for a shot on goal but Oke keeper Ella Kaye kept focussed and batted the ball away from goal keeping a clean sheet.
Rachel Adams scored the seventh and final goal for the home as Okehampton seconds remain top of the league with 15 points.
