TAVISTOCK?recorded its second win of the season by beating Cornwood in a tight match. With often threatening skies, Cornwood won the toss and put Tavistock into bat on a damp wicket. Opening batsman captain Marc Webber and Sam Willets made a brisk start of 41 before both fell. James White took over and showed maturity in compiling a well made 28 including boundaries. Veteran John McGahey at the other end kept the scoring rate up and his 43 included lusty blows. Mark Hopkins kept the momentum up with some big sixes in making 32 not out. Cornwood's best bowler was veteran Dave Petherbridge. Cornwood were soon in trouble with Mark taking two quick wickets. Dropped catches didn't help Tavistock's cause but Nick Goodlife and Ben Griffiths took the score onto 89 before Andy Gauler broke the partnership. Wickets then began to tumble and Cornwood came up short when dismissed for 143. Dave Milligan finished off the innings with 3 for 9 to ensure victory. n This weekend Tavistock are home to Braunton hoping to keep their unbeaten record. The Tamar Evening cup final between Lewdown and Tavistock is at Whitchurch tonight (Thursday) at 6.30pm.
