TEAMS from Whitchurch, Lamerton, Horrabridge and Meavy headed up the A386 to Okehampton to take on schools from Okehampton, South Tawton, Exbourne and North Tawton, with the winning school going on to represent West Devon at the county finals in Exeter later this month.
It was a closely contested affair with no team winning all their pool games. Whitchurch came on top in pool one beating South Tawton 2-1 and Lamerton 1-0 before drawing with Exbourne 4-4. South Tawton and Exbourne were second equal and had to be separated on goal difference, with South Tawton going through to the semi-final stages.
Okehampton topped pool two with wins over Meavy (3-0) and North Tawton (8-0) and a 0-0 draw with Horrabridge. Horrabridge had the same number of points after also beating Meavy (2-1) and North Tawton (4-1) but Okehampton scored the most goals so went through to the semi-finals as pool winners.
Okehampton drew South Tawton and Whitchurch played Horra-bridge in the semi-finals which ended in South Tawton and Whitchurch winning their games and meeting each other again in the final. This was an entertaining and close game with Whitchurch emerging the winners and West Devon champions with a scoreline of 4-2.
