Chagford v Mike Wreford's President's XI IN bright sunshine before a large crowd president Mike Wreford's select eleven made a great start with the openers making an entertaining hundred partnership. James Hope and Jerry Christophers played attractive shots in assembling 125 before the first wicket fell and Hope returned to the pavilion for 53. Christophers went on to make 89, and with Joshi stroking his way to a cultured 38 and Jules Baker 28 not out the President's team reached an impressive 268-6 in their 40 overs. Steve Sizmur 2-31 and Ed Vereker 2-33 were the among the wickets for Chagford. This target though was always going to be difficult to defend on a perfect batting strip with a fast outfield.  Divan Marais  and Jon Wright put on 59 for the first wicket when Wright was out for 28,  Charles Fitzroy joined Marais and took the score to 218, when Marais was out for 125. Fitzroy followed having made 64, and then it was just left to Paul Penberthy 14 not out and Ian Jutsum 10 not out to see the club side home in 37.4 overs with five wickets to spare. The 537 runs in 77.4 overs and a good tea gave the spectators much enjoyment over the afternoon and evening.
