TAVISTOCK Athletic Club's athlete of the month award is being shared between two athletes — Ann Woodhouse and Jackie Ralph.

They were presented with the award in recognition of the huge effort both made by competing in the Drogo10 and also taking part in the Poppy Run.

The Poppy Run started from Harrowbeer Aerodrome and wound it's way through country lanes, woods and tracks for 11.11miles taking runners round 11 local war memorials in rain and ankle-deep mud. Both Ann and Jackie have military connections – Ann was herself in the RAF and currently has a son serving, and Jackie's son is in the Army Air Corps. Both thoroughly enjoyed the event, not for a moment letting the weather dampen their enthusiasm for the occasion.

Two weeks later both ran strongly in the Drogo 10, a tough race set on tracks and trails in the Castle Drogo estate, with steep ascents and rock-strewn tracks. Jackie finished in just over 2 hours and Ann came third in her 65+ age category.

Since then, Ann has starting training for the London Marathon, supported by Jackie and other runners from TAC's Kelly group, coach Lorraine Tofield and marathoner Lesley Cowie.

Both Jackie and Ann plan to compete in the Hoe 10 next month and look forward to another successful year of competitive running.
