Plymstock Albion Oaks U12s
Tavistock U12s
(match abandoned)
WET underfoot conditions were going to make for heavy going for this game. It was an even start and both teams, to their credit, wanted to play open running rugby.
The hosts were more adept at creating space on the outside of the field partly due to Tavistock committing too many players to the breakdown area and then leaving themselves short in the defensive line. However, during the first half there were scores from Mack and Callum but these were neutralised by several scores from Plymouth Albion Oaks.
Weather conditions turned severe, with driving horizontal hail for much of the second half and Tavistock were playing into the worst of it. The game became stuttered as a result but the hosts were gaining the upper hand despite a valiant effort from Tavistock to contain them.
The game was eventually abandoned a few minutes to they end of the final half. However, there were many positives to take from this game but the home team finished with the victory.
Plymstock Albion Oaks
U10s 4 tries
Tavistock U10s 6 tries
THIS was another outstanding team performance from Tavistock, who dominated from the first whistle and kept up the pressure right to the last, despite some horrendous weather conditions.
Some excellent tackling from Ernie and Harry won possession for Tavistock and their combination of passes to Dylan sent Harry through for the first of two tries in the game.
Finlay completely outfoxed the opposition, literally spinning out of tackles to race through and swallow dive to score his try.
Dominic and Alastair were fierce in their tackling and rucking, winning the ball for Ernie, who raced through to score a well deserved try.
Some great runs from Michael, Nathan and Edward and Noah, who was great on his debut, strong in the ruck and worked well with Dylan, who popped through to Harry to run round the outside to touch down.
William A was a powerhouse and super strong at making ground for the team; he, too, was rewarded for his efforts with a try.
In increasingly foul conditions, with hail and raging winds Tavistock continued to keep up the pressure. Some try saving tackles from Alastair, George and Dominic and good rucking from Rafferty and Edward managed to keep Oaks at bay.
At the last Tavistock won back possession right on their try line. The ball was popped back to Matthew from Dylan who forced his way to the line in a maul with William A giving him the power he needed to cross it and score.
