Tavistock 12

Hayle 15

IT was the Cornish visitors who came away with the win after this close encounter with Tavistock at Sandy Park on Saturday.

Hayle opened the scoring when Anthony Matthews touched down but the conversion was missed. A try from Tavistock’s Callum Thompson put things level only for Gareth Lovell’s conversion to give the home team the lead.

They increased their lead to seven points when forward Andy Griffiths powered over but that was reduced to 12-8 when Hayle’s Steve Richards kicked a penalty.

Tavistock were close to victory but with ten minutes to go Hayle’s Dominic Lello scored the try to win the game, with Richards adding the extra.

Late on the home side could have levelled after being awarded a penalty in front of the posts; sportingly they went for a ‘tap and go’ to go for a try but Hayle held out. The narrow defeat means Tavistock are now fourth from bottom, just above the relegation zone on points difference.
