Cornwall and Devon Tavistock first XV 38
Pirate Amateurs
first XV 19
TAVISTOCK got back to winning ways after defeating the much fancied Pirate Amateurs at Sandy Park.
In front of a large gathering support it was the Pirates who drew first blood as their faultless fly half converted a Tavistock offence into three points.
Minutes later Tavistock struck back as man of the match Mark Friend finished off an excellent move starting in their own 22 yard line via a quick tap from Doug Lloyd. Friend quickly doubled up after another kick at goal from the Pirates; this time breaking free from the line out to score under the posts.
As the half closed Pirates fought back to score a good forwards try bringing the score to 14-13 but captain Schuttkacker got on the score sheet himself in similar fashion.
With much positivity running through the Tavistock team the second half ended up being a joy to watch.
Pirates did remain dogged until the hour mark as they brought the scores level at 19-19 a piece, but an excellent belief from Tavistock saw them run in three more tries unanswered. The first of which was potentially a try of the season contender as Waterworth and Bruna linked well to release Mason down the wing beating three defenders on his way under the sticks. Hadfield cut loose in midfield and Oner scored in the dying moments to much celebration all round.
This was by far the best performance of the season so far from the Moorlanders.
