SHEBBEAR College U16s played in the HSBC National Schools’ rugby seven tournament.

The key game for Shebbear was against Maidstone Grammar School, and in the final play of the match scores were level. Will made an excellent break, which looked to be the decisive try, but an excellent cover tackle and resulting turnover meant Maidstone snatched victory.

Shebbear’s stand out performance was against Bae Bagon, a big school from Wales. The final score was 50-7 to us.

Mark Sharman from the college said: ‘The tournament was a fantastic event, and showed our boys how well matched we are with some of the best sides nationally. We look forward to returning next year with an U18s side and making the tournament a regular in our fixture list.’

Shebbear’s player of the tournament was Alessandro.
