FIFTEEN teams from nine schools took part in the year 3 and 4 tag rugby festival at Tavistock Rugby Club.

Many children had never played the game before and were unsure at the start of the morning but by the end of the festival so much had been learned and picked up by the youngsters, that some very good tag rugby was being played.

The teams were divided into two pools and told to score as many tries as they could, with medals going to the top two try scoring teams. With great glee and lots of support from school staff, parents and grandparents the children had a great time and much energy was run off before the gold medals were awarded to Whitchurch and the silver to the Meavy A team.

Organiser Mhairi McCall of OCRA expressed thanks to Tavistock Rugby Club for the free use of the facilities.

She said: ’It was another very successful school sports event and hopefully some new rugby players for the club!

’Thank you also to Meavy, Lady Modiford’s, St Andrew’s, Horrabridge, Tavistock, Lamerton, St Peter’s, Whitchurch and Gulworthy primary schools for bringing their year 3 and 4 children along to partake in the fun.’
