North Tawton 29
Exeter Saracens 0
AFTER the excitement and tension of last week’s win 77-5 away to Exeter Athletic expectations were high at the home of league leaders North Tawton that another big win could be on the cards.
However, a much changed Exeter Saracens side that took to the grass at Taw Meadow meant business right from the first whistle and looked a much more together outfit than the hosts had faced a month ago.
With every break down being fiercely contested by both sides there was no score for the first 18 minutes with the home side really finding out they had a game on their hands.
Just as the home support was getting a tiny bit restless up stepped captain and number Craig Dennis with the first of his three tries with a typical running, quick passing effort from North Tawton for 5-0.
Exeter Saracens had no intention of letting their heads drop and spent the rest of the first half coming back at North Tawton time and again, testing the strength of the home defence.
At the end of the first half the score remained just 5-0 to the hosts.
At the start of the next 40 minutes North Tawton side cranked up the volume against the away side with more intensity and it was not long before the Saracens’ dam burst with tries two and three for Craig Dennis; with one conversion added it took the score to 17-0 with 20 minutes to go and now the home side were in search of the bonus point.
The Saracens side while never giving in did start to show signs of accepting the fact the game was getting away from them — not helped by a further try for Gary Sizmur to make it 22-0 to the home team.
With the bonus point in the bag next came a solo effort from Tom Stevens who on acquiring the ball took off up the field looking and going under the posts to live the final score 29-0 to North Tawton.
Hopefully this is another step closer to the season’s main aim of the league title.
Man of the match was North Tawton’s Matty Dennis.
