Devonport Services

U14s 14

Tavistock U14s 17

IN the first game of the season the Services’ forwards gave no quarter at the breakdowns. This caused Tavistock to work hard for possession, but some solid work from the pack and some ferreting from scrum half Tom Persse kept the Tavistock machine moving forward.

Tavistock were rewarded after five minutes when Louis Peake slid over the line in the corner after some great backs play via centres Edward Tait and Dan Pett.

Services hit back with a try after more hard rucking and some great hands wide and a couple of missed tackles. Not to be outdone Tavistock came back strong with Jaxom Cann powering through the Services’ pack from 10m out and Harry Richardson and Noah Berridge combined to rip the ball from a maul; Noah bounced off one defender before offloading to Dan Pett who sidestepped inside the last defender to score.

However, typical of the game Services gritted their teeth and found another gap for a second try. There were great performances from Dylan Owen, Luke Edwards and Edward Tait. Captain Harry Richardson made some crunching tackles and full back Harry Edwards swept up at the back and used the boot to good effect. Prop Charlie Meakin earned himself man of the match for his tireless work in the loose and at scrum time.
