TAVISTOCK RFC 5

LISKEARD/LOOE 11

after losing heavily by 0-39 away to Liskeard/Looe earlier in the season, Tavistock knew they had no easy task as they entertained their Cornish visitors at Sandy Park on Saturday. Frustratingly for the home team as they could not overturn the previous result in a match played in difficult conditions.

Liskeard/Looe went into half-time 6-0 up thanks to two penalties by Tom Dinnis.

In the second period the visitors had more possession despite the slope disadvantage and were rewarded with a Jamie Rogers try on 72 minutes.

Tavistock though fought back and a late, late try from a five-metre scrum by captain Andrew Schuttkacker earned them a valuable bonus point.

Moorlanders’ player coach Hammy Kerswill said: ‘We have gone from losing 39-0 down there to 11-5 here so that is a bit of a turnaround but it was not a complete turnaround. I think we have let a win go there. We are looking a better team than we have done, but we just need to start putting games away.’
