Caerphilly girls U15s 12

Tavistock girls U15 12

WITH rain and a gale blowing, Tavistock U15s went out on the soaked pitch to play a fiercely patriotic Welsh team at Caerphilly.

Directly after the kick-off with the wind behind the home side, the game was played inside the Tavistock 22. Tavistock made some handling errors with the greasy ball and were unable to counter attack. The pressure soon told and Caerphilly crossed the line and converted.

Tavistock then began to master the ball and soon worked their way towards the Caerphilly line. The visitors showed that they had both skill and speed to win the match. By now recycling the ball well, Tavistock moved up a gear and Beth Hodgekiss powered over with Lucy Jones adding the points.

In the second half a try against the run of play from Caerphilly gave them a five point lead. Lauren Dawe responded for Tavistock with a great try in the corner but could not convert.

In the final few minutes it was all Tavistock, but they could not make it count and a draw was the most satisfactory result.

The tour to Caerphilly also included a session of indoor rock climbing, which was strenuous and exciting for the players.

All the players and coaches would like to thank Mhairi McCall, who started the Tavistock Girls section in 2005, as she has decided to withdraw from managing and coaching.

She has been a tireless worker for the girls and the mini-junior section of the club and all at the club wish her well in her future endeavours.
