THE Meadowlands Rookies in Tavistock are all smiles after being presented with their rookie gold three awards.

The presention of their certificates and badges rewards the huge amount of work that the young swimmers have put in to their training.

They are now begin their next tasks of learning and are aiming to become 'mast rookies'.

Rookie lifeguards know how to stay safe near water. Drowning is the second highest cause of accidental deaths in children in Europe and most drownings are preventable.
