BERE Alston’s Jon Tiffen ran the marathon to raise money for LAM Action, a small charity raising funds and awareness for the incurable lung disease lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM).
Jon lives in Bere Alston with wife Carla and children Zac and Scarlet. Jon’s mother-in-law Lyn Humphrey was diagnosed with LAM in 2008 — since then Lyn has had to give up her career in human resources and has undergone a double lung transplant and has suffered two strokes.
Jon said: ‘Lyn is doing well and has gradually learned to walk and talk with aid but there is a long way to go. She is a true inspiration which inspired me to take on the marathon to raise funds and awareness for LAM.’
Since securing his place Jon has trained hard with half marathons and will carry on his fundraising at the Bournemouth Marathon Festival in October. He said he has been overwhelmed by support from his friends and family as well as strangers.
Jon crossed the line in 4.21.25.
