TWENTY young people from St Andrew's Church, Buckland Monachorum, spent a weekend at Heatree Activity Centre earlier this year on Dartmoor developing their team work and leadership skills.

The outcome of the weekend resulted in the youngsters deciding to work on a mission trip, either in this country or abroad, to help people less fortunate themselves.

To raise money to do this they planned a trip for 2015. One of their fundraising ideas was to abseil down a church tower and they invited fellow members of the community to take part.

The group were grateful to 29 Commando in Plymouth for making it possible by voluntarily hosting the event and supplying all the equipment. Richard Warner and Denby Hollis supplied the expertise from 29 Commando.

More than 20 people — children and adults took part in a successful and exciting day.
