Devon B

v Thorverton

IN the final home league game of the season for Tavistock first XI, nothing but a convincing win was required to maintain outside promotion hopes.

Winning the toss, Tavistock batted first on a wicket that was under water seven days previously.

Runs were hard to come by in the face of accurate bowling from Thorverton. Churchill and Gray saw off the new ball. Pope came and went to a good ball.

Thorverton continued to bowl well and the usually fluent David Manning had to work hard for his 43. There was no such problem for Rhys Davies who blasted 34 of just 26 balls with fine hitting. Sean Cleave batted well for a breezy 30 off 30 balls.

The first six wickets all built partnerships which allowed Tavistock to set a challenging target of 216.

During the break, Travis Muller was presented with the bowling cup. As has become the norm, he then proceeded to take early wickets in his opening spell.

Well supported by James McGahey, Thorverton found themselves 20-3. The Thorverton overseas player Francis-Griggs decided to attack and cleared the boundary six times before holing out to Daymond for 76. Daymond and Cleave mopped up the Thorverton tail with five and and wickets respectively.

Promotion is still attainable with the final league game away versus Shobrooke.
