Devonport Services Colts 7
Tavistock Colts 22
THIS was a gritty early season encounter between two keen and eager teams.
Tavistock took control of the game early on and for the first 20 minutes they were camped in the Services half.
They were first to the ball in the loose, quicker at the breakdown and won most of the lineouts. Services deserved much credit for their determined defensive effort, while Tavistock squandered a number of good chances to open the scoring.
It was Devonport who eventually took the lead exploiting a poor defensive line to run in and convert under the posts.
Tavistock responded quickly with Luke Northmore scoring a penalty and a try to lead at half time. In the second half Tavistock stepped up a gear.
Tries from Will Slater and Glen Fuller were both converted by Luke Northmore to put Tavistock in a commanding position. The Tavistock defence was far more cohesive and the victory was well deserved.
Overall this was a good performance from a Tavistock team that is just beginning to play together.
With genuine pace and ability in the backs and a very capable set of forwards, this could be a good season for Tavistock if they start playing as a team.
