LAST Wednesday it was time for members of Bere Alston Trekkers (Bats) to hang up their trainers, wet gear and head torches in favour of posh frocks, shirts and ties for the annual club presentation evening and dinner.
The venue for the event was once again the parish hall with catering provided by Chrissy Venning and her team.
The club has had another great year with thousands of miles run collectively. Bats have entered a record number of events ranging from 5km to 24 hour fund raisers.
There have been personal bests galore and lots of new members wearing their club vest for the first time as well as those who have achieved their own goals like running three marathons in three days, or their first 20 miler training run or running 100 miles in one hard, continuous effort.
Aside from the formal awards made, other notable achievements this year made by Nathan Newton, Rachel Wood, Murray Turner, Sarah Burns and Natasha Ayres were recognised during the evening. Members also gave a big thank you to the club's coaches and run leaders.
Club chair, Dotty King thanked club members for their continued support through 2014, the Bere Peninsula community for their support and Trinity Church for the use of their hall during the year and the Tavistock Times Gazette.
She added: 'Although there were a number of individual awards during the evening it must be said that every Bat is a superstar, every step they run is worthwhile and every Bat a winner.'
