THERE was an early Christmas present for Tavistock Amateur Boxing Club when Devon County Councillor Debo Sellis, on behalf of the council, handed over a £1,000 cheque to Tavistock Amateur Boxing Club.
Councillor Sellis said: We are really pleased to be able to assist a good cause we think it’s important to help and support our local charities in the area and recognise the work they are do for local people.
A delighted Tavistock ABC coach, Tony Fennell, says the club always tries to fundraise as much as they could and every little helps.
He said: ‘A big donation like this is wonderful. It means we will be able to provide more effective equipment without any boxers worrying about buying anything themselves. We are absolutely delighted and very grateful to the Devon County Council and the support of Councillor Debo Sellis. It means a tremendous amount to us.
‘Tavistock Amateur Boxing Club is a recently established club. We are a registered charity and all coaches and staff work on an entirely voluntary basis. We have a dedicated team of volunteers and feel we are offering a fantastic opportunity to the local community.
‘The club has grown quicker than we ever imagined it. We would currently have more than 100 junior and senior boxers age from 5 years-old up to 45 years old.’
Tavistock ABC are currently based at Westbridge Indus-trial Estate but are now looking to secure a larger space in the local community on a long lease to enable them to expand and offer exciting opportunities to exciting and new members.
