SEVERAL Tavistock Swimming Club members recently successfully competed in The Harwich Cup at the Plymouth Life Centre.

This event was a top level meet and was initiated by Plymouth Leander in conjunction with the Plymouth authorities as part of the city’s Mayflower 400 celebrations — Harwich is where the Mayflower ship started out from before eventually leaving Plymouth for the United States of America in 1620.

The club congratulated swimmers who took part — Emily France, Jake France, Alfie Morgan, Samuel Palmer, Jack Plummer, Peter Ray, Amy Roberts, Finley Smallshaw, Charlotte Walker and Hannah Walker.

All secured some excellent personal best times, with particular mention to Emily France and Alfie Morgan who both saw major improvements in their 400 freestyle times. A set of superb swims from Jack Plummer saw him secure a number of gold and silver medals.

Amy Roberts and Peter Ray were delighted to make a number of age group finals too — Amy the 200m butterfly and Peter the 50m freestyle, 100m and 200m backstroke. While there were no medals for them this time, both had excellent swims and they came away with real determination to build on their great results next time.
