OKEHAMPTON Otters Swimming Club entered the Devon Amateur Swimming Association (ASA) ‘Sprints’.

Five swimmers from the club competed in four races of 50 metres covering frontcrawl, breaststroke, backstroke and butterfly.  The event was open to all the Devon swimming clubs and there were more than 350 swimmers taking part.

The Otters performed brilliantly across all their events finishing with one gold medal, two silvers and three bronze medals, as well as several other top five finishes.

The medals were won in the 50m backstroke with a gold for Sophie Howell and the silver for Evie Cunningham. Evie also won a bronze in the 50m breaststroke and freestyle. Jess James won the silver in butterfly and the bronze in breaststroke. Jessica and Ben Bowles competed hard and attained personal best times in their events.

Okehampton Otters head coach David Dennis said this was ’a fantastic performance from the Otters swimmers.

’Six medals in 20 events is wonderful. I’m so pleased with them all. We have several wonderful young competitors coming though and we are a club on the up.’
