MEMBERS from Okehampton Run-ning Club tackled the infamous Grizzly race hosted by Axe Valley Runners.
The field included runners from all over the country and a large contingent from the Netherlands.
The rain which fell during the preceding week made the gruelling 20 mile route, which includes pebble beaches, steep cliff paths and a notorious bog, a serious test of stamina.
ORC Andy Vallance, a veteran of this event, is never happier than when conditions make it a 'proper Grizzly'. He is in great form and finished in 13th place despite injuring a hip eight miles from the finish. Rob Kelly was delighted to finish after a disappointing race last year when he had to pull out with a hamstring injury.
It was a first Grizzly for Ali Holliday who has been training hard on Dartmoor through the winter months with Lucy and Karen Skye, along with their spaniel dog Paddy.
Results: Andy Vallance 2.35.23, Rob Kelly 3.11.27, Jo-Anne Fletcher 4.39.33, Lucy Marrison 4.39.34, Lucy Skye 4.47.03, Ali Holliday 4.47.04 and Karen Skye 4.47.05.
