THE course for the First Chance 10K race in Exeter passed a 7am inspection and took place in bitterly cold conditions.
Five members from Okehampton Running Club took on this fast two lap course with husband and wife team Rob and Claire Kelly aiming to run it in under 90 minutes between them! They actually managed it in 88.47 — Rob finishing first of the ORCs in 46th overall position in 38mins 42secs and Claire in 50.05.
They were separated by Mary Moore in 48.01 (UKA bronze award time) with Kate McDowell in 58.59. Unfortunately Jane Jones, who has always produced good runs in this event in previous years, had to pull out halfway due to an injury.
Another county, another race and just as cold, the Storm Force 10 at Redruth is a popular 10 mile road race organised by Carn Runners – and another husband and wife team.
Veterans Jane and Derek Jackson had a field day with Derek 'storming' home in 1.11.02 which is a new club record for 10 miles in the MV55 group, and also a UKA gold award time. Jane finished in 1hr 18mins 55secs (second FV55) making this her sixth diamond UKA award this year – a superb achievement.
The third member of ORC was Anne Binns, one of the newer members who has been working hard in her training and was rewarded with a good time of 1.25.48 and a bronze award.
