COURSE records tumbled at the first of Okehampton Running Club's summer races which took place in perfect conditions with a small field of hardy runners. The 'out and back' fell race to the top of Cosdon Tor is a traditional part of the Belstone Village Fair. The winner was James Best from Tavistock AC in a time of 29 minutes 06 seconds, a male course record. The first lady was Robyn Carter who finished in 37.35 for a female course record. Third and fourth places went to ORC with Andy Vallance in 31.12 and Paul Crease, the race director, 32.59. Lucy Skye, the previous female course record holder, was the first ORC lady home in 42.28, having taken part in a fifteen mile race earlier in the day! Other ORC times: - Adrian Kettle 36.17, Ben Bowler 41.25, John Binns 41.52, Darren Duffy 43.20, Jo Fletcher and Karen Vallance 54.19. The previous day, Charlotte Radnor took part in the Otter Rail and River Run, a 10k race from Tipton St John, finishing in a time of 53.11. She said it was very enjoyable with a flat route along footpaths, tracks and fields and good support from the spectators all the way around. ORC Brian Welham ran in the Torbay Half Marathon finishing in 2.03.12. The next club race is the Great West Fell Run on Saturday, August 2 at 2pm. This five mile race is a good introduction to anyone new to fell running as well as being a challenge for experienced fell runners, with a route that goes to the highest point on Dartmoor. Race HQ is at Meldon Dam car park. Entries can be taken on the day or visit http://www.okehamptonrunningclub.com">www.okehamptonrunningclub.com to download an entry form.
