THE Roadford Lake Triathlon saw several members of Okehampton Running Club taking part. Dave Mugliston is an experienced triathlete having completed many triathlons over the years, most recently being well placed at last month's Bideford Triathlon. This was his first attempt at the middle distance, which started with a 2,000 metre open water swim in Roadford Lake, followed by a tough 81k bike section involving a total climb of 4,000 feet rounded off with a 20k undulating multi-terrain run. Dave put in a fine performance to finish 27th in a total time of 5 hours 37.54 minutes. For the other ORC members it was their first attempt at a triathlon and all of them thoroughly enjoyed the experience. They took part in the novice event over a 400m swim, 12k bike and 3k run. Sarah Marvin excelled in all three sections to finish an excellent 11th overall, third lady and winner of the aged 40-49 section in a great time of 47.48 minutes. Marilyn Cooper overcame her reservations about the swim section to finish in 55.55 taking the female super veterans' award and Claire Sprague, after a long absence from swimming and only having taken up running a few years ago, completed in 1.12.25. With a good supporting contingent of family and friends, the day was quite a family affair with Claire's husband Garry taking part in the novice event and Marilyn's son, Peter, completing his first middle distance event just two months after his first triathlon earlier this year. ORC's Cosdon Hill Race takes place on Sunday at 2.30pm. Race HQ is at Belstone, entries can be taken on the day at £4. The approximate three mile route is a take-your-own-line to the top of Cosdon Hill and back over rough terrain. It promises to be a good one being part of the annual Belstone Fair.
